Canada’s Landmarks is a comprehensive social studies resource that introduces students to important natural, cultural, and historical landmarks across Canada. Each landmark includes a detailed informational passage written at a Grade 3 level, followed by a comprehension activity that reinforces key reading skills such as recalling details, sequencing events, interpreting vocabulary, and using context clues. The teacher introduction explains that the unit develops “noting and recalling details, recalling events and information, sequencing, context clues, vocabulary development, and comprehending oral information,” ensuring strong literacy integration alongside social studies content.

The resource also supports geographic literacy by encouraging students to locate each landmark on a map and build a visual understanding of Canada’s regions. Students explore national parks, historic sites, geological formations, and culturally significant places, fostering pride and awareness of Canada’s heritage. With its blend of reading, mapping, research, and critical thinking, Canada’s Landmarks aligns with every Canadian province and territory’s Grade 3 Social Studies expectations for heritage, identity, and geography.
