Build essential time‑measurement and literacy skills with The Calendar: Beginning Math Series, a cross‑curricular resource aligned to Canadian provincial standards and U.S. Common Core. Students learn months, days, seasons, holidays, ordinal numbers, graphing, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression through engaging monthly poems, stories, and calendar activities.

This resource meets curriculum expectations in Ontario, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Atlantic provinces, and WNCP territories. It also aligns to Common Core standards in Math (1. MD.B.3, 2. MD.C.7, 3.MD.A.1) and ELA (RL/RI/L/W/SL for Grades 1–3). Reproducible calendars, diary pages, and teacher rubrics make implementation seamless for classrooms, homeschoolers, and intervention programs.

Monthly Poetry Activities

The monthly poems can be used at the beginning of each month as a student reading activity. Some of the poems may have to be read to younger students and the activities discussed orally.
