Canadian Comprehension (Grades 3–4) is an integrated literacy and social‑studies resource designed to build reading comprehension, writing skills, and knowledge of Canada’s geography, history, government, and cultural identity. Across seven sections, students engage with fiction and nonfiction texts on topics such as provinces and territories, physical regions, bodies of water, pioneer life, Aboriginal peoples, provincial governments, urban and rural communities, and famous Canadians. Each reading selection is paired with follow‑up questions targeting skills like reading for detail, using context clues, identifying main ideas, comparing and contrasting, sequencing events, and making inferences. As the introduction states, the resource “creates links between reading and writing” and “supports both the social studies and language curriculum”.

The program also includes structured writing tasks—descriptive, persuasive, narrative, and informational—aligned to the themes in each section. Students complete creative writing, diary entries, brochures, persuasive paragraphs, editing tasks, and story‑element writing. The resource culminates in reading, writing, and social‑studies assessments with rubrics. Its Canadian content is extensive: students learn about “Canada’s provinces, territories and capital cities”, “the seven physical regions of Canada”, “Aboriginal peoples… and how they helped early settlers”, and national symbols such as “the Canadian flag” and “the beaver”.
