A poor and hardworking shoemaker, down to his last piece of leather, cuts out one final pair of shoes before going to bed, only to discover the next morning that two tiny elves have crafted them to perfection. Night after night, the elves secretly return to  finish his work, allowing the shoemaker and his wife to regain prosperity. Wanting to thank their mysterious helpers, the couple makes warm little clothes and shoes for them, leaving the gifts out on Christmas Eve. The delighted elves dress themselves, dance joyfully, and disappear, never to return yet the shoemaker and his wife continue to thrive, grateful for the kindness that changed their lives
