Reading Logs supports the developing readers as they transition into more complex texts, including chapter books, nonfiction, series books, and media. The resource provides teachers with planning tools, long‑range charts, assessment rubrics, and a detailed literacy development profile. Students are guided to retell stories, identify story elements, make predictions, draw conclusions, and begin making inferences—skills explicitly listed in the expectations chart such as “Retell a story in proper sequence” and “Begin to make inferences.” The program also introduces nonfiction reading and media literacy, encouraging students to restate information and distinguish between fiction and nonfiction.

The resource strengthens the home–school connection by providing parent letters, reading tips, and simple record sheets that track daily reading. Follow‑up activities reinforce comprehension, vocabulary, and content‑area learning in science, social studies, and health. By integrating fiction, nonfiction, and media texts, the program aligns with all Canadian provincial/territorial literacy outcomes and U.S. Common Core standards for Grades 2–3, supporting oral communication, reading comprehension, genre understanding, and foundational media literacy skills.
