Reading Logs is a comprehensive teacher resource designed to strengthen early literacy through daily home–school reading routines. The guide explains what reading logs are, why they matter, and how to implement them effectively. It includes parent letters, reading tips, sample log sheets, assessment rubrics, and developmental reading profiles. The resource emphasizes oral language, comprehension, prediction, sequencing, and personal connections—skills repeatedly highlighted in the expectations chart, such as “respond to text by describing personal experiences and retelling familiar stories” and “predict what may happen next”.
The resource provides differentiated approaches for Kindergarten and Grade 1, including wordless books, nursery rhymes, memory gems, and teacher‑directed reading assignments. Follow‑up activities help children practice retelling, identifying story elements, and making connections. By supporting parents with clear guidance and simple record sheets, the resource strengthens the home–school connection and aligns with Canadian provincial standards and U.S. Common Core Grade 1 expectations for oral communication, reading comprehension, and foundational reading behaviors.
