Sight Words & Phonics Part 4 provides structured, developmentally appropriate practice with Dolch Sight Words 171–220 while systematically teaching vowel teams (ai, ay, ea, oa, oo) and the long/short sounds of y. Each unit introduces five sight words, reinforces them through matching, copying, spelling, and sentence completion, and integrates phonics instruction through targeted vowel-pattern activities. Students apply these skills in short, decodable stories that use only the words and phonics patterns taught, supporting confidence and independent reading.

The resource also includes word classification, plurals, suffixes, alphabetical order, riddles, and visual discrimination tasks. Assessment checklists, teacher rubrics, and student self-assessments provide clear progress monitoring. The workbook meets Grade 1 curriculum expectations across all Canadian provinces and territories and aligns fully with U.S. Common Core standards for foundational reading skills, phonics, decoding, and sight word fluency.

Designed for emerging readers and readers having difficulty or requiring review at any level.

The six units will assist you with building and improving reading skills through the introduction of the next set of 50 Dolch Sight Words 171-220 and the reinforcement of important Phonics skills. At the same time, short vowel sounds are introduced and reinforced.

Each unit introduces 10 sight words that are broken up into 2 lists of 5. In between each list, a short vowel is introduced. Sight Words and vowels are then reinforced through short sentences and revision activities that follow.

To end the unit the student reads a short story that only contains words they have learned and practiced.
