Story Summary:

Stone Fox tells the story of Little Willy, who enters a high‑stakes dogsled race to save his grandfather’s farm from unpaid taxes. With his loyal dog Searchlight, Willy bravely competes against the undefeated Stone Fox, an Indigenous racer committed to reclaiming tribal land. After leading most of the race, Searchlight dies just before the finish line, and Stone Fox—moved by Willy’s determination—halts the other racers and allows Willy to carry his dog across the line to win. The novel highlights courage, love, and the unexpected kindness that can arise even in competition.
